What is Reduced Emotional Expression?
Reduced emotional expression refers to the diminished ability to outwardly display emotions, such as smiling, crying, or showing empathy. This symptom is commonly seen in individuals with mental health conditions like depression, schizophrenia, or anxiety disorders. Reduced emotional expression can also occur during addiction recovery, particularly as individuals work through the emotional numbness caused by prolonged substance use or trauma.
This condition can make it difficult for individuals to connect with others, affecting relationships and social interactions. Therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), is often used to help individuals understand and express their emotions more effectively.
