What is Paranoia?
Paranoia is a psychological condition characterized by irrational distrust or suspicion of others. Individuals experiencing paranoia may feel as though they are being watched, followed, or conspired against, even when there is no real evidence to support these beliefs. Paranoia is commonly associated with certain mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or anxiety, and it can also be triggered by substance abuse, particularly with drugs like methamphetamine, cocaine, or cannabis.
In addiction recovery, addressing paranoia requires a combination of therapy and, in some cases, medication. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can help individuals recognize and challenge their irrational thoughts, while medications may be used to manage symptoms in more severe cases.
