What is Lack of Energy?
Lack of energy, or fatigue, refers to an overwhelming sense of tiredness or exhaustion that
affects an individual’s ability to perform daily activities. This is commonly experienced during
withdrawal from substances like opioids, alcohol, or stimulants and may continue into the early
stages of recovery. Substance abuse often disrupts the body’s natural energy regulation,
resulting in extreme lethargy as the body works to heal and restore balance.
Fatigue can be both physical and mental, leaving individuals feeling drained, unmotivated, and
unable to concentrate. During recovery, the body is adjusting to life without the constant
stimulation or sedation that substances once provided, leading to prolonged periods of low
energy.
Managing a lack of energy during recovery involves establishing healthy habits, including proper
nutrition, regular physical activity, and adequate sleep. Therapeutic techniques such as
mindfulness, meditation, and stress management can also help reduce fatigue by improving
emotional regulation and mental clarity.
