What is Clinical Depression?
Clinical depression affects a person’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, often making it hard to
function in daily life. It is more than just feeling sad occasionally; it is a prolonged and intense
state that impacts relationships, work, and daily tasks.
Common symptoms include ongoing sadness, lack of interest in activities, appetite or weight
changes, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and even thoughts of death or suicide. These symptoms
can last for extended periods if not treated.
Treatment often involves a mix of antidepressant medications and psychotherapy, such as
cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps people challenge negative thoughts and
behaviors. With the right care, many individuals with clinical depression can effectively manage
their symptoms and live fulfilling lives.
